Annie Mae Bennett
When the sun rose on June 24, 1929 in Latta, S.C., Luther and Annie Bethea, had a beautiful baby girl with a dazzling smile. Her birth was so amazing that Wall Street Crashed but they survived the Great Depression with God and love in their home. Annie Mae Bethea age 87 of Adelanto CA transition home on July 30. 2016.
She was the oldest of six children. She enjoyed fun filled days with her grandparents on their farm, where she also lived for many years. She attended school in Latta and Loris. After the death of her mother at a young age, she moved to Murrells Inlet SC, a single mom with 5 boys and 1 girls, later to birth 3 girls, 2 boys, Caren preceded her in death at 6 months of age. She “drug” us to church and instilled the love and knowledge of God. Gospel music filled the walls of the home daily. She raised her children to love, respect and look after each other. (we have lived up to that most of the time). She worked many jobs and long hours to feed and clothes her children. Times were sometimes hard, but God saw her through. We can see her dancing on the old wooden porch. She loved to read comic books, mystery novels and love stories. She enjoyed watching soap operas, Alfred Hitchcock and horror movies.
She met and married Robert lee Bennett, who preceded her in sleep in 1977. Together they raised her children (10) to be responsible young ladies and gentlemen. She never achieved any phd’s or high educational status, but she had the love of God, as accepted Christ at a young age. Shouting Annie as she was loving called by some loved singing to the glory of God.
After the loss of her husband in 1977, Annie decided to move to San Diego CA with three teenage children, in hopes of giving them more and better opportunities in life. We think she did. She united immediately with the Bayview Baptist Church family and was active in the Sanctuary Choir. She was an active member of the San Diego Martin Luther King Gospel Choir until illness force her to quit, she sings for Jesus now.
Annie loved good food, cooking for her family, and socializing, she enjoyed going to movies and traveling with and to her family, and her beautiful smile would light up a room. She loved everyone and hardly met a stranger. She wasn’t the prefect mom, she was our mom, the best that God had to give. She helped to raise many of her grandchildren and she shared a special bond with one with each one.
Her brothers, Luther and Gene, her husband, Robert and many family and friends met her at the gates of glory on July 30th 2016
