Daniel Paul Jackson

Master Chief Master Diver Daniel Paul Jackson, the son of Donald and Paulette Jackson, was born on May 22, 1972. He departed this life on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the age of 46 years, 9 months, and 14 days.Dan graduated from Locust Grove High School, where he was the Salutatorian for the Class of 1990. Dan left his mark on LGHS athletics as co-captain of the football and track teams. He was also the Editor of the yearbook and Sports Editor of the school newspaper, The Pirate.In May of 1990, Dan boarded a bus in Claremore, Oklahoma to serve his country in the United States Navy. Dan was assigned to serve on the USS Houston, a fast-attack, nuclear powered submarine based in San Diego, California. He served two Western Pacific Deployments. Before he departed Active Duty in May 1996, Dan was Second Class Petty Officer, qualified SCUBA Supervisor and Diving Division Lead. He continued his career in the Navy Reserves, while working for Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Later he was selected for a Federal Civil Service position. Soon after 9/11, Dan served another 8-month tour, handling dolphins and sea lions trained to perform defense operations.On August 1, 2006, Dan set a record by becoming the first person to pilot the Atmospheric Diving System Suit (ADS2000) to a depth of 1980 feet, almost twice as deep as the former record. Among the many places he traveled with the Navy, he was deployed to Taranto, Italy; Petropavlovsk, Russia; Chang-gi, Singapore; Perth, Australia; Arendel, Norway; and Cartagena, Spain.In March 2014, he was selected Master Diver in Panama City, Florida. That was followed by being selected Master Chief Petty Officer in March 2016. He retired from the Navy Reserves on February 22, 2019. He resided in Imperial Beach, California and attended Canyon Ridge Baptist Church in Linda Vista, California.Dan is survived by his father and mother, Don and Paulette Jackson of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; numerous other relatives as well as his brothers and sisters in the Navy.A celebration of life service was held March 16in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Another celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 in San Diego, California. Dan will be memorialized in the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California and also with a living reef for divers to visit at the site of several of his Navy milestones in Panama City, Florida
