Maxine Rebecca Martin, age 90, died peacefully on December 29, 2016. She was born in Grafton, West Virginia, on June 11, 1926. She was raised in the Washington D.C. area and always cherished her many memories there.
Maxine Martin was a remarkable, brave, intelligent, witty, and loving women. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Maryland. Maxine was a trailblazer for professional women in the 1940’s through 1970’s, working in the field of Accounting in both the federal government and private sectors and paving the way for other women to do the same. She had a passion for loving her family, living life to the fullest, and speaking her mind with honesty and compassion.
Maxine is survived by her sister, Helen Lee Williams of Titusville, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Steven Louis Daugherty and Christine Ann Daughtery of Fairfax, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Wakefield and David Wakefield of San Diego, California, grandchildren, Christine Regina Vitello of Tampa, Florida, William James Daugherty of Sterling, Virginia, Barbara Ann Simonsen of Centreville, Virginia, Dawn Michelle Spencer of Riverside, California, and James, Sophia and Edward Wakefield of San Diego, California; great-grandchildren, Anthony Figueroa of Tampa, Florida, Janelle Pearl Daugherty of Manassas, Virginia, William James Daugherty, II of Manassas, Virginia, Dalton Louis Daughtery of Culpepper, Virginia, Danaka McKenzie Simonsen of Centreville, Virginia, and Emalee Raelynn Millard of Riverside, California. Maxine was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Martin, daughter Barbara Lynn Foster, and grandson Steven Louis Daughtery, II.
In accordance with Maxine’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at El Camino Memorial Park on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 12;00 PM Noon.
