My Xuan Huynh

Birth Date: July 30, 1952
Death Date: May 27, 2017

Michael Huynh Xuan My was born on Wednesday July 30th, 1952 in Rach Gia, Vietnam. He was a loving husband to his wife Nga, a selfless father to his three children Albert, Michelle, and Andrew, a supportive brother, a caring uncle, and a dedicated friend. Michael passed away on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 in San Diego, California due to a heart attack that induced a cardiac arrest.

As a young man, Michael immigrated from Vietnam at the age of 27 to seek a better life in America. He graduated from CSU Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1985, and worked at Maxtor and Quantum in Silicon Valley until he moved to San Diego and was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2004 at the age of 51.

During the second week of May 2004, Michael was in the final stage of liver cancer and his chances of living were slim. It was at this time that he had heard God’s calling and wanted to be baptized. Two weeks after his baptism, the hospital called to inform him that he was gifted with a liver to proceed with a liver transplant. He took part in the first “domino” liver transplant procedure in which a patient receives an organ donor and Michael received that patient’s liver. After surviving this procedure, Michael dedicated his second chance at living to fulfill God’s will.

Strong minded and full of energy and adventure, Michael never missed an opportunity to have fun with or help his family and friends. As an active member within the catholic community of Good Shepherd Parish, he consistently volunteered at events in addition to participating in the choir. Michael would always be found passionately photographing memories, exercising, interacting with animals, and building things with his hands. He was often admired for his humor, modesty, strength, and dignity that he exemplified for every situation.

Despite all challenges he may have faced, Michael lived everyday with an endearing smile that emitted an aura of gentleness, calmness, and laughter that touched those around him. Whether you needed him or not, he was always there for you. He would never pass on any moment with you, as well as any food he could lay his hands on. We will never forget his immense positivity, blessed soul, and kind heart.

Michael will forever touch the lives of those who loved and knew him and will continue to stay in our hearts.
