Morgan J Boeckel
June 3, 1929 - March 5, 2022
Morgan Julius Boeckel passed away at home with his family on March 5, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Morgan was born to Rosalia (Middlesteadt) and Michael Julius Boeckel on June 3, 1929. He had two older sisters- Vivian and Julie and a younger brother Melvin. He grew up on a farm in Zap, North Dakota. His family moved to San Diego in the 1940’s where he remained for the rest of his life. Morgan graduated from Kearny High School and began working as a Hotshot fighting wild fires for the Forest Service and also started working at General Dynamics. Morgan then decided to serve the United States Army in Big Delta, Alaska during the Korean War. He was a Corporal. After serving he returned to work at General Dynamics as a Tool and Operations Planner taking classes at Mesa College earning his Associates Degree. He worked there for over 40 years. Morgan was proud of working on the Tomahawk Cruise Missle and would point it out while visiting the Aerospace Museum at Balboa Park. He was very mechanical and could fix anything, including his cars. He was married to Leila Sandknop and had three daughters; Beth, Janice and Kathy. Morgan was quite the family man- he loved going to the beach-snorkeling in La Jolla Cove, fishing off Ocean Beach Pier, skiing in the mountains, going to the San Diego Zoo, tent camping with his daughters, walks, hikes, going on Sunday drives and spending time with his family. He was very close to his mother, siblings, nieces, nephews and in-laws. His daughters and grandkids were his biggest priority in life, that is who he spent most of his time with- he traveled to visit them and always remained very close to them despite any distance. After he retired he traveled and continued to be a constant in his families lives, while enjoying his house and yard, woodworking, watching the stock market and taking up some baby sitting on the side. He leaves behind his three daughters: Elizabeth Boeckel-Barr (James Barr), Janice Mays, Kathy Romero (Mike Meza), seven grandchildren: Rory Romero, Sara Romero (Ryan Stephens), Joshua (Sonia) Mays, Chelsea (Raymond) McQueen, Jennifer Boeckel Barr (deceased), Ryan Barr, Sierra Boeckel-Barr and five great grandchildren: Chase Boyce, Michael Mays, Sophia, Amelia and Olivia McQueen. He was the best father and grandfather; he loved us, encouraged us, supported us, cherished us and entertained us. He gave us all his love and attention and helped form us into the people we are today. He was deeply loved and is very missed.
