Me and irma were very close, best friends in fact. We taught each other everything. I was there when she slammed her face into the glass dining table and knocked out all her teeth. I was there when her diaper fell down in school and poo went all over the halls, and the teacher slipped in it. I loved her...
I’m saddened to hear of Irma’s passing and I feel honored to have known such a sweet soul as Irma. She will always be in my heart. My deepest condolences to Irma’s family and friends.

Of course many growing up memories, but a story I still get a chuckle out of. Evelyn and Irmgard stopped at Tanta Marie (my grandmother) on the way to the airport for a visit. After the visit, Evelyn said to Irmgard “give your Tanta Marie a hug goodbye” Irmgard said No, “I’ll just shake her hand.” We all laughed.
The memories remain! As I see it, Irma had her own world; a world not cluttered with the redundancies and frivolities of modern life . . . the differences between what people really need and what they think they need. One could indeed learn from Irma, who seems to have gotten it down to the essentials of humor, love, and togetherness.We have litten a candle for Irma at our favorite chapel here in the Bavarian countryside. it’s a secluded location with natural spring water gushing out from deep under the earth; a place I think Irmgard would have enjoyed. Rest in peace little cousin. One day we’ll all be joining you!walter & christine
It was my pleasure to be around the angelical Irmie and her devoted sister, Evelyn. Everyone in the facility loved Irmie, she always had a big smile on her face. We’ve learned so much what a family means from the way Evelyn’s always took her of Irmie. She will be missed everyday around us.
I failed to mention Irma’s fastidiousness about order. Her drawers were always perfectly organized with neatly aligned rows of folded clothes. She always made her bed first thing (and even on her first hotel stay, she proudly surprised the hotel maid showing off that she had already made the beds. There was no convincing her in subsequent hotel stays that she didn’t have to make her bed.) Not having that same “orderly” trait myself (unlike our cousin Betty) Irma fairly often walked into my room with an unmade bed, or the living room with newspapers lying around and loudly pronounced, “SHLOPPY!” So dear Betty, I think that only my mother could measure up to Irma’s standards of keeping a house clean.
I knew where I stood …… on one occasion, while at our house Irm used the bathroom. She shut the door, made herself comfortable and began “shimfing”(scolding in English). She spoke loud enough for us to hear, in the adjoining room, what she was saying. “Betty is a “shlep” a German expression for sloppy. For those who do not know me I am the opposite. Irma saw it differently. I loved it! To this day we delight in that expression. You will put a smile on my face whenever I think of you. I send you my love. Betty
Irma occasionally spent the night at our home, Dick and Betty Wheelock. One Saturday morning Betty was off to work and I was in charge of breakfast for Irma. She was so pleased with her eggs that she called me “Nice Guy”. Betty who makes delicious meals was just “Betty”. After all that was “woman’s work”. I have never made breakfast since but do enjoy my reputation. You will make heaven smile! Thanks, Irmie
