Evelyn May Kaczka

Evelyn May (Strutzel) Kaczka passed away at home in San Diego, California, on March 21, 2017 with her niece, Karen, by her side. Born January 9, 1921 in Olpe, Kansas she grew up in small towns on the southeastern plains of Colorado. During WWII, Evelyn worked at Convair, an aircraft plant, testing oxygen levels for planes.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Edward John Kaczka, and her brother, Howard Joseph Strutzel. She is survived by her sister, Viola Marie O’Leary. As the oldest of her siblings, she cared deeply about her brother and sister and the three of them enjoyed talking to each other about many subjects.
Evelyn loved being a part of Our Lady of Confidence Catholic Church and had a deep devotion to her faith. For several years Evelyn facilitated the Share the Word bible study group, served in the grief and healing ministry and was on the finance committee. She was also on the architectural committee for the renovation of the church. She was known for being a thoughtful listener, having gentle humor and giving others a sense that they matter. Evelyn’s warm and gracious presence will be missed. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am ,Monday, March 27th at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church 3131 Governor Drive, San Diego, Ca 92122 and entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, Ca 92102 at 3:00 pm.
