Margaret Ann Raney March 26, 1924 – March 7, 2021 San Diego---Margaret (Pegi) passed away at 7:30 pm on March 7, 2021 at Scripps Memorial Hospital. She had lived a long while dealing with underlying health issues. Son Michael and Granddaughter Kelley were allowed to visit 2 days before her passing. They suited us up in staff Covid protective gear and we were blessed spending time with her. We told her “We love you!” Not able to speak she nodded her head to each of us. Margaret, the daughter of Gretchen and Edwin Stahl was born at Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She and her sister Dorothy lived their school years in Paulding, Ohio a small town that numbers 3,600 people today. Paulding is located 72 miles Southwest of Toledo, Ohio and 34 miles East of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Her graduating class numbered only 40 students however she developed lifelong interests and loves in Music, Dancing and Basketball. She played Clarinet in five bands; High School 1st chair, Quartet, German street corner, Concert, Swing, and Marching. A highlight was her Paulding High School Marching Band played at halftime for a University of Michigan Football game. Credit must be given to her Grandmother Amanda Hamilton Crawford who played a major role in lovingly help raise Margaret. Post high school she worked at General Electric assembling armatures on heavy duty motors. Her next employment was with the US Army and served as a nurse stationed at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio Texas during WWll. She met Arthur Raney a US Navy patient there and soon after became Mrs. Raney. Her travels as a military wife took them to Corpus Christi, Texas where son Michael was born. A brief stop back to Ohio where brother Stephen was born at Defiance, Ohio. Next station was the exotic island of Trinidad off the coast of Venezuela where we shared many good times. We relocated to Naval Station Mayport Jacksonville, Florida for a few years. Margaret worked at a dance studio and for a dentist to stay busy. Next move on to Pt. Mugu Naval Air Warfare Center located by Oxnard, California. Margaret was involved with volunteering for our Little League teams always bring good cheer to all. The last military relocation was to San Diego’s Miramar Naval Station and settling in North Clairemont until her passing. Margaret (Pegi) as she like to be called continued to enjoy her many “Loves.” She loved her house and backyard with a beautiful peaceful garden and she always had a dog as a companion for the last 25 years on her own. Pegi enjoyed watching her son Michael play Basketball and Baseball at Madison High School and into college. She loved playing the piano, Tap dancing and other styles of dancing She loved her neighbors especially Carol & Jim who she knew for 60 years. Oh! The Clairemont Denny’s Gals Stephanie, Kat, Cynthia, & Christine kept her feeling young and “with it” visiting the Corvette Diner and other events. Clairemont Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jim and the Church guys Greg, Gary, & Peter. Going to see live shows of some of her favorite musicians and artist. Pegi is survived by son Michael , grandson Derek Raney with partner David and granddaughter Stacy & Husband Andy Wilde with great granddaughters Catherine & Alexandria all living in Australia. Granddaughter Kelly Raney with Husband Charlie Hijo and great grandson Harrison of Santee, CA. Grandson Matthew Raney of Spokane, Washington. Nephew Danny Strain and children Stacey & Hannah of Shreveport, Louisiana. Nephew David Strain and children Chris, Benjamin, Lucas, & Samuel of Eugene, Oregon. Nephew Keith Strain and children Thomas & Alison of Lafayette, Louisiana. Niece Lila & Husband John Prime with children Daniel & Jeremy of Shreveport, Louisiana. May Pegi rest in Peace knowing that she was loved by many and made a positive difference in their lives. She did a 'Good Job"
