Alex Escobar Acosta's Obituary
Acosta, Alex Escobar 01/14/1928 ~ 07/16/2014 SAN DIEGO — Affectionately referred to as “Hondo”, was born in Phoenix, Az on January 14, 1928. The son of Eduardo Acosta and Manuela Escobar, Alex lived in Phoenix with his 13 siblings until the age of 26. On October 20, 1953, he married Amelia Gomez. They moved to San Diego and raised a beautiful and loving family of 10 children and were married for 61 years. After attempting retirement, Alex returned to work for his beloved Padres and Chargers where his unmatched wit and humor served him well for the next 10+ years. Alex is predeceased by his son David and is survived by his wife Amelia and children Alex, Jr., Gloria Savala, Lily (Gil Baca), Sylvia (Kiko Garcia), Connie (Michael Ornelas), Adela (Jimmy Alvarez), Bob, Audrey (Scott Kennedy) and Vivian (Danny Coronado). Alex had 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The Viewing will be from 4:00-8:00, Rosary to begin at 6:00 on July 23, 2014 at Clairemont Mortuary 4266 Mt. Abernathy Ave., San Diego. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on July 24, 2014 at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4124 Mt. Abraham Ave., San Diego. Interment will follow immediately at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent or made online to VA San Diego Health Systems. Arrangements under the direction of Clairemont Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
