First, my condolences to the Allega family. I was his crew chief at HMM-163. He was as fine an Aviator has I had flown with.
Semper Fi my Brother!
Fred and I both are plank owners for HMM-264 as the squadron was formed at New River
in June, 1959. In 1960 the squadron traded in their old H-45 helicopters for brand new
H-34s. and deployed on 3 Viaques Porto Rico 6 week deployments. Fred had his saxophone with him and loved to entertain us. Semper Fi old friend.
George Cumpston Lt Colonel, USMC (Ret)
Fred was a good friend for 30 years. Will miss him every day. My loss isn't like family.....but I'll miss him nonetheless. Bill
The obituary says it all and may well be the best and most complete I have ever read!
Fred was one of the finest Marine Corps officers I have ever known. His service was particularly noteworthy because it was never about him and always about family, subordinates and friends..
His volunteer efforts on behalf of the Flying Leatherneck Historical Foundation and Museum were invaluable.
Fred Allega will be missed.
