Paul Schwenn
Having been an “honorary” member of the Porlas family for the past 50 years, I feel as though I lost a mother too. Alice always welcomed me, thought I was too skinny and tried to feed me and treated me like one of her own children. I have so many fond memories, it’s difficult to capture them. As young kids playing catch on the street, she would watch us play. When I was chosen as Godfather to one of her Grandchildren, she addressed me accordingly in what I felt was a sign of respect. At that same grandchild’s wedding, she draped a lei around my neck and again said,”we have one for the Godfather”. It haunts me that at the last minute, I could not attend the family gathering the weekend she passed away. I would have embraced the opportunity to see her one last time and let her know how important she was to me. My heart breaks for the entire family to have lost such a loving, integral family member.
With all my love and condolences, Paul Schwenn
