I have known Allen since Kindergarten in Kirksville, MO! Over the years he became my brother David‘s best friend, spending many happy hours at our house telling hilarious jokes. We had a blast on band trips and sitting with the band in the bleachers at football games. Allen and my brother played clarinet; I played (and still play) flute. We formed a trio with our bassoonist friend Martha to try out for Regions and All-State. I remember those rehearsals fondly.
I knew that Allen built an organ and had patented a related device. What I didn’t know was how beautifully he played the piano! His recording of Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” brought tears to my eyes. We shared a profound love of music by J.S. Bach.
We kept in touch over the years. Whenever Allen was in the NY-NJ area on business, he would take me out to the nearest French restaurant for a superb dinner, joined by our classmate Marilyn whenever she was available. I visited Allen and Mary in San Diego, where I enjoyed his gourmet meals all week long. Their home was filled with relatives and friends whom they accommodated graciously and generously. Allen truly loved to entertain!
I can‘t believe that he is gone. My heart aches for the loss of such a vital, energetic, caring, kind, creative, brilliant, generous person. My deepest condolences to Mary, Jon, Paul, Michael, other family and friends, on your devastating loss. Our world is far better for Allen‘s 77 years on earth.
Rest in Peace and Harmony, dear friend.
Love, Laura Karel George, Class of 64
