Angel Alegro Topacio's Obituary
Angel A. Topacio passed away peacefully at Sharp Memorial Hospital in La Mesa, CA on October 16, 2024. He had been ill for some time.
Angel was born in Anabu-Imus, Cavite Province, Philippines over nine decades ago. He completed high school there and entered the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation. He was sent for basic training to the Naval Training Center in San Diego and then went on for further schooling at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Illinois. He was stationed mainly in California and Washington but also deployed to Kodiak Island, AK. He also had the opportunity to serve in his home country, the Philippines, twice at the now defunct Naval Station Sangley Point slightly north of Cavite City. While in the Navy, he also served on several ships in the Pacific Fleet. He started off as a steward and later became a storekeeper. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in San Diego, CA in 1979 and then worked in Civil Service for many years afterward.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Marjorie, his four children, Anthony Topacio of Petaluma, CA; and Robert, Elena, and James Topacio all of San Diego, CA. He leaves behind, grandchildren James A.Topacio Lavka (Billie Jean) of Medina, TN; Joseph Topacio, and Jazmine Topacio, both of San Diego, CA plus two great-grandchildren, Delilah Montes and Landon James Lavka. He has one remaining sibling, Juana Encabo of Dasmariñas, P.I. and countless nieces and nephews also in the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Godofredo and Anastacia Topacio; brother Ricardo Topacio & his spouse Zenaida Antonio Topacio; and his nephew, Wilfredo Encabo.
Viewing will be 5 – 9 pm on November 6, 2024 at the Clairemont Mortuary, 4266 Mt Abernathy Ave, San Diego, CA 92117. Funeral services will be private for family only.
