Antonio Simoes Sousa's Obituary
Antonio Sousa passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2009at the age of 73. Born November 1, 1936 in the southern Portuguese fishing village of Fuseta, he began his commercial fishing career at the age of thirteen. Along with his father and three brothers he fished for cod and tuna around the world. In 1966, Antonio and his wife Zulmira immigrated to San Diego with their young daughter, Nella. A year later, their son Richard was born. He and his family became an integral part of the local tuna fleet, as well as the Point Loma Portuguese community. Antonio retired from fishing in 1996 and spent many days doting on his beloved grandchildren, Antony and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife Zulmira, children Nella (David) and Richard, grandchildren Anthony and Elizabeth, and brothers Manuel, Alfred and Jack. His warm smile, gentle spirit and clever wit will be missed by many.Arrangements under the direction of Clairemont Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
