My Uncle Ben was a man of little words. For him, actions spoke louder than words. His ability to man the engine room of a US navy destroyer was important to him. Just as being the best machinist in both military and civilian life. An athlete all his life, he let his play speak for himself. When he did speak, it was usually in song, while playing his beloved Kamaka. You heard his strong sense of ohana with his songs. He was a devoted husband to the love of is life Louise. He never left her side during the remaining years of her life and provided better care than any nurse could. He was a good father who raised two sons and took them fishing. And every News Years Day, he held the annual New Years Party for friends and relatives at his home. His signature teriyaki barbecue was legendary. He spoke with his friendship, his hospitality, his generosity, his cooking and his music. He was a master card player of Sakura (Hanafuda), although I'm sure he made up the "bird yaku" for his convenience. He treated all his nieces and nephews as if they were his children. And he took us places where our parents wouldn't. I'm glad I spent more time with him this year, even if it was at the crap table. Our last trip to Hawaii will always be memorable. I know you wanted to stay there a little longer. But now, you are there forever.
