Barbara Esquivel's Obituary
Barbara J. Esquivel, 89, of San Diego, CA, passed away November 27,2022. She was a life long resident of San Diego, CA. She was married to Alfonso Esquivel 59 years before his passing in 2017. Barbara retired from the MCRD San Diego Post Exchange after 23 years of employment. Before that she was a homemaker and mother of 5 boys. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Town San Diego, Ca. and helped with the Church’s Buffalo Bar-B-Que from the 70’s to the 90’s, and was instrumental in helping with the retro-fit of the Church. Barbara was a life long quilter and enjoyed teaching quilting and sewing. She loved her fellow neighbors and staff at Brookdale Assisted Living, where she resided for the last 5 years. She was survived by sons, Robert A Esquivel, Richard G (Kathy) Esquivel, James E. Esquivel and John K. (Terry) Esquivel. Grandmother of Robert Esquivel, Robin (Tony) Trujillo, Loni Esquivel, Anna Esquivel, Elizabeth (John) Wolverton, Andrew (Breanna) Esquivel, Amy (Jarrett) Baker, John (Areka) Esquivel, Pedro Esquivel and Jenny Esquivel, and 10 great grandchildren as well of several nephews and nieces.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband Alfonso Esquivel, mother Olive Chappell, father Herbert Whitmarsh, brother James Whitmarsh, son Pedro (Pete) Esquivel, and grandson Dustin Esquivel.
A funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and internment at Holy Cross Cemetery will be scheduled at a future date.
