Bassem Georgy's Obituary

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the passing away of Professor Bassem Georgy, Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology in the Department of Radiology at The University of California at San Diego and past President of the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR).
Dr. Bassem Georgy was the loving husband of Mrs. Eman Ghobrial Georgy; a cherished father to Mark and Matthew Georgy; beloved brother of Dr. Manal the wife of Dr. Yousri Hanna in London, UK; beloved brother of Dr. Sameh the husband of Mary Samuel in Cairo, Egypt; beloved brother of Mr. Nader Georgy in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and brother-in-law of Dr. Ayman Ghobrial the husband of Dr. Marianne Ghobrial in San Jose, CA. Our prayers and sympathies go out to all family members.
Dr. Georgy received his medical degree and master's degree in radiology at Cairo University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his radiology residency at the University of South Alabama. Two separate clinical fellowships, neuroradiology, and magnetic resonance imaging, were completed at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Georgy is the past President of the American Society of Spine Radiology and the San Diego Radiological Society. He is an active member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the American Society of Spine Radiology, the European Society of Neuroradiology as well as the American Society of Neuroradiology. He has received many honors and awards for his scientific research and presentations in the United States, Europe and beyond. Dr. Georgy is an Associate Editor, Pain Physician and Reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology. His publications list is extensive and includes journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters and he won numerous awards throughout his world-class career. Moreover, Dr. Georgy was one of the architects of a very successful and still-lasting cooperation between the American Society of Spine Radiology and the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR). He co-organized the first joint ASSR-ESNR spine meeting in Rome, Italy in 2009. He was an esteemed lecturer and an excellent teacher at many meetings and hands-on courses organized by ESNR and ASSR. Bassem taught so many radiologists about spinal imaging and interventional procedures and surgery that his legacy will live on for generations. His publications were insightful and his hands-on teaching throughout North America, the middle east, and Europe were special.
Bassem was a dear friend and colleague, and he was known and loved by everyone throughout the spine radiology world. As an associate Clinical Professor of Radiology in The Department at The University of California at San Diego, as well as in private practice in the local county he touched many lives and families, in a compassionate and professional manner.
His family was his heart and soul. He spoke about his children with an enduring smile, and his sons were his biggest pride and joy. He was thoughtful and always invited friends and colleagues to social events and family gatherings. He traveled the world with Eman, his loving wife, and kids and deeply treasured those times.
It is with grieving hearts but faith and hopes in the resurrection that we bid our dear, beloved Dr. Bassem Georgy farewell as he is reposed in the Paradise of Joy and rests in the embrace of our Heavenly Father.
Dr. Bassem was a devoted and compassionate servant and an honorable family man. His loving heart and kindness won the hearts of those blessed to know him. He will be missed, and his memory will eternally be in our hearts.
