Betty Jean Greene's Obituary
Betty Jean Greene, age 84, passed away peacefully. Born on November 5, 1940, in Washington, DC, Betty was the eldest of two children to Floyd Domeny and Katherine Maley. She spent her early years in Seabrook, MD, and attended Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD. Betty pursued higher education at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where she earned her RN degree.
Betty had a distinguished career as a US Navy RN LIEUTENANT, serving in Yokosuka, Japan where in 1965 she met Ed Greene at the same base where Ed was a LTJG [a junior rank]. On their first date they Climbed 12,388' Mt. Fuji. Betty also worked at Scripps Hospital and was a SAIC NAVY RN at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington, DC. She retired in 1990 after 40 years of dedicated service. Post-retirement, Betty enjoyed sailing, powerboating, and RV travel. She lived in Seabrook, MD, and San Diego, CA.
On June 22, 1968, Betty married Ed Greene in Las Vegas, NV. She is survived by her sons, Michael Alan Greene (Maggie Greene) and David Edward Greene (Christina Greene); grandchildren, Noah Greene, Nina Greene, Kyle Greene, Kate Greene, and Kellen Bradley; niece, Beverly Moody and Leslie; nephew, Michael Piatt; grandniece, Sidnee Smith and Shelbe. Special friends of Betty included Victor and Anna Salerno, and Jennifer Bare.
Betty was a Southern Baptist and served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy from 1962-1967. Among her most cherished life events were raising her two successful sons, Mike and David Greene. She loved reading mysteries and traveling, and her favorite music included Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Betty lived on her beloved boat “Beans” at Shelter Island from 2007-2016, enjoying the community at the San Diego Yacht Club. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
