Beverly Lynn Slater-Sheehan's Obituary
Beverly Lynn Slater-Sheehan, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away in San Diego, California on July 30, 2024, at the age of 78. Bev will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her thoughtfulness, love for family and friends, and the way she inspired, encouraged, and mentored so many. Her sunny disposition, beaming smile, positive energy, and enthusiasm were infectious.
Bev was born on April 20, 1946, in Hackensack, New Jersey to Bernard & Ethel Slater. She grew up in Hillsdale, New Jersey as the eldest of her three siblings. From the time she was a young child, Bev loved to perform and put together plays/skits for the whole neighborhood. The consummate performer in her was born.
Bev graduated from Trenton State College of New Jersey with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and went on to receive her Master’s in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1974. After graduation, she moved to San Diego to be with her treasured sorority sisters and fell in love with the sunshine and beaches.
Bev was introduced by friends to Mike Sheehan, and they met for the first time on the tennis court. She was his last tennis lesson on Friday afternoon, which was followed by their first date. They were married on November 6, 1982, in Hillsdale, New Jersey surrounded by their family. Together they adopted and raised their only daughter, their pride & joy.
Bev always pursued her passions with enthusiasm. She taught elementary and middle school core subjects and shared her love of acting/singing/dancing through teaching Drama classes. After retirement she mentored student teachers and fulfilled her lifelong dream when she performed onstage in the San Diego Senior Follies.
Bev’s strong faith was an integral part of her life. She was involved in the Women’s Ministry at her church, led Vacation Bible School, and taught Sunday School. She was an active member of her community and put her heart and soul into helping launch the Tierrasanta Village of San Diego.
Bev brought endless joy wherever she went and touched the hearts of many.
Bev is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren, three siblings and their spouses, nieces and nephews, extended family and a multitude of friends.
A funeral service will be held for Bev and Mike on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 2:00p.m. at Tierrasanta Lutheran Church in San Diego where they were lifelong members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bev’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
