Brian Dale Hoff's Obituary
Brian Dale Hoff (age 75) of Chula Vista, CA, passed away at home on October 11, 2024.
He was the son of Ray and Alma (Pudwill) Hoff and was born at St. Benedict’s Hospital in
Parkston, South Dakota. Raised on a farm, southeast of Tripp, SD, he graduated from Tripp
High School in 1967. After high school, he worked various construction jobs and moved to
Mitchell, SD, before joining the U.S. Navy in 1969.
Throughout his 24-year naval career, he participated in the Vietnam War, the Iraq-Iran War, the
Gulf War, and peace-making conflicts in Beirut, Lebanon, Mogadishu, and Somalia. Brian
retired from the Navy in December 1993. He used to say, “There are two types of people who
get to see all the countries and places he’s seen, and they are either millionaires or sailors”.
After the Navy, he worked as the Security Supervisor at the Hotel del Coronado, in Coronado,
CA. He finished his working career at the Social Security Tele Service Center in San Diego, CA.
After working there, he was much more thankful to receive his Social Security check.
In retirement, Brian enjoyed visiting Las Vegas (or any casino) a few times a year, gardening,
watching TV, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member
with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association (FRA),
and Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his son Ronnie Hoff and two
granddaughters Alexis and Hailey (San Diego, CA); daughter and son-in-law Amy and Kris
Williams with grandson Nikolas (San Diego, CA); son Matthew Hoff (San Diego, CA); sister and
husband Sharon and Jerry Welter (Apple Valley, MN); nephew Scott Welter (Farmington, MN);
and niece Dawn Welter (Burnsville, MN).
Burial service, with full military honors, will be held at Miramar National Cemetary on
Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 2:15 pm. A viewing will be held at Clairemont Mortuary in
San Diego from 11:00am - 1:00pm, with a small service beginning around 12:00pm.
