Britta Ingegard Tafvelin's Obituary
Britta I. Tafvelin
1/23 1940 – 4/01 2024
Britta passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2024, after a short illness. She was born in Ledusjö, a small farming village in Northern Sweden. She was the third of four daughters to Sven and Olga Andersson. She attended school at Nordmaling’s Realskola and earned a Bachelor of Education at Härnösand’s Teacher College. Britta began her career as an elementary school teacher in Stockholm. In 1964 she married her husband, Nils A. Tafvelin, and three years later gave birth to her daughter, Anna. Britta immigrated with her family to the United States in 1968 and landed in San Diego 1971. She loved living in San Diego, and she operated her store, Scandinavian Specialties, in Seaport Village, for many years. Britta travelled to Sweden often throughout her life to visit her family, relatives, and friends. After retirement in 2007, she was able to travel more often. She enjoyed cruises and in particular river cruises through Europe. Britta cared deeply for her family, and her grandchildren, Dale and Emma, brought her much joy as they grew up nearby in San Diego. As a member of House of Sweden, she enjoyed participating in its activities and maintaining the Swedish culture.
