Candida Valdez Mulhern's Obituary
Mrs. Mulhern was born Maria Candida Valdez in the Philippine Islands on Dec. 01,1936. She was a loving wife of 40 years to her husband Edward Mulhern. On Sept. 19, 2024, at the age of 88, Candi died of a massive heart attack while in Kaiser Hospital.
She grew up during the WW2 invasion, occupation and post war rebuilding. It was a time of hardship, physical and emotional. She lived with the emotional scars of those early years. Candi came to America in 1970 and became a naturalized citizen. She met Ed at the MCRD in San Diego and they have lived in the same house throughout their marriage.
Before retiring, Candi worked as the Activities Director at St. Paul’s Villa in San Diego. She was a natural at helping people. Candi loved life. She enjoyed throwing parties and celebrations. She also loved to travel. Her interests ranged from gardening to ball room dancing.
Candi was preceded in death by her sons Eugene and Javiel Quintanilla. She is survived by her husband Edward, her daughter Sandra Pittman, son Reynaldo Quintanilla his wife Kathy, her youngest daughter Selda McGee and her husband Mike McGee, her grandchildren, Erika Ivey, Jordan McGee and Matthew McGee, her great granddaughters, Violet, Parker and Willa Ivey. A remaining sister in the Philippines Leonida Valdez Calacala.
She is also survived by a great many cousins, nieces and nephews
