Carl J Bair's Obituary
Carl J. Bair, age 89 was born on February 24th, 1934, in Woods Cross, Utah where he lived until moving to Nyssa, Oregon where his parents started a dairy farm. He was the 3rd of 3 children. His parents were Howard R Bair and Nell Betts Parkin. He went to school at Nyssa High School and Art Center College of Design and earned a Bachelor degree of Professional Art. He began a career as an illustrator for Ryan Aeronautical and worked as a financial planner and business owner.
Carl grew up on a dairy farm in eastern Oregon. Here he learned the value of hard work. Getting up at 4:30am to milk a herd of cows before catching the bus to school. He worked hard in the Army during his time stationed in Europe and finished his service as a photographer. This is where he learned the art of capturing the moments that tell a story. After graduating art school, he began his professional life as a commercial artist by painting advertisements for large corporations. He would eventually move on from the art field and pursue other jobs and entrepreneurial work that would better support his growing family. He would never lose his love for art whether in drawing and sketching or poetry. He would captivate audiences with his poetry and storytelling and delight unsuspecting restaurant patrons with a sketched portrait.
He lived in Nyssa, OR; Colorado; Los Angeles, CA and San Diego, CA. He married Afton Clark on September 24,1977 in San Diego Ca.
One of his special accomplishments was becoming an official Eagle Scout in 1950. In addition, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He also served in the US Army from 9/3/54 to 8/7/56 where he was a photographer and news correspondent.
He was described by his family and friends as kind, loving, thoughtful, caring, generous and respected. He loved painting, illustrating, writing poetry, and loved reading Louis L’ Amour books. And he could never miss Rubio’s Taco Tuesday!
Surviving family members are wife, Afton Bair; Children Donetta Bair, Robbie Bair, Jeff Bair, Wayne Bair, Kevin Robinson, Tom Dove, Mike Dove, and Robin Parks.
