Carmen Sudo Mesa's Obituary
On December 22nd, 2018 Carmen Sudo Mesa, loving wife and mother, passed away peacefully in her home with her children by her side, at the age of 93 years. Her spirit is carried on by her five children, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one sibling, and an extended family of relations and friends from all walks of life. We are all blessed to have experienced her love, humility, generosity, devotion, and warming smile. She was an inspiration to all of us.
Carmen was born on August 10th, 1925, in Agana, Guam to Sansiro Gregorio Sudo and Ana Cruz Baza. As a young woman, she survived the Japanese invasion of Guam and concentration camps during WWII prior to moving to the United States. Carmen met Antonio Cruz Mesa, whom she married on June 17th, 1950 at Saint Francis Church by Father Alvin and was married for 39 loving years. In 1951, Carmen and Antonio began their life in the United States and from this point forward, Carmen would be the matriarch and the soul of our family.
In her lifetime, Carmen left lasting impressions on everyone she came in contact with and was always willing to help others. Whether she was caring for family members, cooking for a party, or doing something neighborly, she always found a way to be purposeful and charitable to others. Her presence was magnetic, her love had no bounds, and her heart was open to everyone.
As a devout Catholic, she embodied the love of Christ and the tenants of the bible. There was not a more ideal daughter of God than her.
Carmen also loved her daytime soap operas. During the weekdays she was not to be disturbed from 11am-3pm. Soap operas may have been her only real guilty pleasure.
Carmen is survived by her children Velma Hamilton (Partner: David, Child: Shawn), Bertha Battle (Children: Jimmy and Unique), Michael Mesa (Wife: Rene’, Children: Anthony, Celina and Gregory), Jeanne Washington (Husband: Marvin, Children: Maria, Luwana and Marquis), Amy Hilliard (Husband: Steve, Children: Stephanie), Sibling Elizabeth Mendiola, 18 great grandchildren, and other family and friends of whom are too numerous to list.
Carmen is reunited with the love of her life and husband Antonio Cruz Mesa, and is predeceased by 10 siblings.
