Carmen Delia Rosa's Obituary
Carmen Delia Rosa (1946-2024)
Carmen Delia Rosa, 77, passed away surrounded by love and family. Born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, on May 4, 1946, Carmen, or "Carmensita" as she was fondly called, embarked on a life journey that took her from the vibrant landscapes of Puerto Rico to the bustling streets of New York City at the age of two. It was here, under the guidance of her parents, Pascual and Esperanza Madera, and alongside her five siblings, that Carmensita's vibrant spirit and zest for life began to flourish.
Her creative passions were nurtured at Sarah J. Hale Vocational High School, leading her to a fulfilling career in dressmaking with a specialty in wedding dresses. Her talents graced the halls of Saks 5th Avenue and later adorned the showcases of various dress boutiques, a testament to her skill and entrepreneurial spirit.
Carmen's heart found its match in Angel Rosa, marrying into a love that would weather decades and distances. Together, they embarked on a life filled with love, laughter, and two cherished children. The cold of 1978's blizzard saw them move to San Diego, California, seeking warmth not just in climate but in community and faith.
San Diego became a canvas for Carmen's spirit of service, particularly at La Casa de Puerto Rico. Her dedication to her faith deepened, finding expression in choir and hospitality, enriching her community, and nurturing lifelong friendships.
Retirement in 1996 marked a new chapter, not an end, to Carmen's journey of service and exploration, alongside dear friends and family. Her legacy of love, resilience, and faith lives on through her husband, Angel; children, Alex Rosa and Michele McCooey; grandchildren Aubree, Patrick, Caleb, Matthew, and Jared; siblings Manuel Madera, Violeta Gomez, and Judith Serrano; and a wider circle of extended and spiritual family.
Carmen's life was a testament to overcoming, her spirit undimmed by challenges. From childhood arthritis to the trials of life, she found strength in her faith and joy in service. Carmen leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and the profound impact of a life well-lived, inspiring all who knew her.
