Charles(Chuck) Mark Paterna's Obituary
Charles (Chuck) Mark Paterna passed away on October 31st, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by his family and close friends, with prayers and worship songs filling the room.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ai Lin; his sons, Kevin, Peter, and Chandler; his parents, Andrea and Mark; and his brother, Luke.
Chuck joined the U.S. Navy in 1991, right after high school. Over a distinguished 24 -year career, he served his country with honor and dedication, traveling the world and experiencing life in places such as Japan, Italy, Bahrain, Iraq, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, France, and England. His service allowed him to immerse himself in diverse cultures, build lifelong friendships, and collect a wealth of global experiences that shaped his outlook on life.
After retiring from the Navy, Chuck began a new chapter at General Atomics (GA) in 2018 as an Information Systems Security Officer. He immediately thrived, known for his calm demeanor, sharp intellect, and unwavering professionalism. A steady presence and natural mentor, Chuck guided his colleagues with patience and humility. His calmness was legendary —some joked that his polygraph needle never moved! Ever the “quiet professional,” Chuck never sought recognition for himself; his pride was reserved for his family and his faith.
Chuck cherished his role as a husband and father, finding immense joy in laughter, adventures, and everyday moments he shared with his loved ones. Providing for and protecting his family was second nature —whether ensuring Ai Lin crossed the street safely or cheering on his sons’ achievements, he embodied love through action.
A man deeply rooted in faith; Chuck began attending Horizon Christian Fellowship in 2020. He found great fulfillment in serving alongside Ai Lin and their brothers and sisters in Christ. His faith was his compass, guiding him to live with kindness, humility, and compassion.
Chuck also found joy in life’s simple pleasures —fishing (often joking about quitting work to spend every day on the water), golfing, camping, and lively conversations about politics.
Chuck’s life was marked by faith, love, and devotion —to God, to his family, and to all who were fortunate to know him. Though we will miss him dearly, we take comfort in knowing that we will see him again in Heaven.
