Charles Lewis Schaffer's Obituary
Charles Lewis Charlie’ Schaffer August 29, 1913 – September 13, 2016 La Jolla Charles Schaffer, son of Walter and Pearl Schaffer, brother of Lawrence Schaffer and Kathyrn Trimpi passed away after a heroic battle with cancer. He was married for 32 years to Christene Schaffer, who preceded him in death in 1975. He is survived by Loretta, his wife of 40 years, and daughter Beverly McClure, stepson Martin Becker, stepdaughters Katherine Whittman, Mary Crowley, Veronica Stanovic, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, Charles made his way to the West Coast during WWII and was proud of his B-29 legacy and his status as flight engineer for General Krueger and later Chuck Yeager. He was an active member in Flying Samaritans, Southwestern Yacht Club, and US Auxiliary Coast Guard. He was a 32nd degree Mason and very active in Shriners, past Commodore of Al Bahr Yacht Club. He will be fondly remembered as an avid tomato farmer well into his 102nd year. A memorial service will be held at the Al Bahr Shrine, 5440 Kearny Mesa Rd., San Diego, Monday, Sept. 19th, 11:00 am. An Honor Guard burial at Miramar will be held in early October.
