Darrell D Barney's Obituary
Darrell D. Barney
June 7th, 1935 – April 1st, 2016
San Diego
Our beloved father passed away peacefully at home on the morning of April 1st holding the hand of his eldest daughter Alicia after a heroic fight with cancer. He was 80 years old.
He was born in Minneapolis Minnesota on June 7th, 1935 to Warren Barney and Marjorie Goodwin.Darrell is survived by his children, Evan, Alicia, Aaron, Cheri, and John and his grandchildren, Ashley and Emma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Barney and Marjorie Goodwin, his brothers Warren Jr. and Larry, his nephew Steven and his beloved daughter Deborah.
Our dad was the most hardworking man you could ever meet. His first job was as a door to door Fuller Brush salesman in San Diego in the sixties where he would meet his first wife, Rita Busby, while working for his future father in law. His first marriage garnered 4 of his 6 children and a lifelong bond with his now ex wife and in laws.
After his 20 years as a Fuller Brush man, he went on to buy Ace Window Cleaning in the 80’s. He would eventually meet his second wife, Shirley and have children number 5 and 6. He cleaned the windows of many homes in San Diego well into his 70’s. He loved working in the outdoors where he could smoke his pipe and listen to his talk radio. I am sure this is how his many customers will fondly remember him.
His hobbies included golf, gardening, politics, and loved to bet the horses at the Del Mar Race Track. When he wasn’t able to drive himself he would have one of his kids go down to place bets for him.
He was a dedicated father who loved his children to death and would do anything he could to help them out in life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making his kids laugh and himself in the process.
We will remember our dad as a tough as nails guy with a heart of gold. He had a strength about him that no matter what life threw at him he would just keep going. He tackled his battle with cancer in the same stoic manner. We will love and miss you pops, you are in our hearts forever.
