Douglas Eugene Tomlin's Obituary
Douglas Tomlin, 91, of San Marcos, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was born February 11, 1932, in Martin, South Dakota, to Grace and Abraham Tomlin.
At age nine he moved to San Diego with his parents and brother Lloyd.
Douglas graduated from La Jolla High School in 1950. Immediately after graduation he went to Fairbanks Alaska to work as a surveyor. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and was stationed at Ladd Field, Fairbanks Alaska.
Upon returning to San Diego, he met his wife to be Georgean Hruska. They were married in April 1959 and were married for 49 years until Georgean’s passing in 2008. Together they raised three daughters, Denise, Marie, and Holly in Del Cerro, San Diego.
Douglas was very involved with the Knights of Columbus. He joined San Diego Council #1349 in 1970. He held numerous offices while being a member, Warden, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight for 3 terms, and 2 terms as District Deputy. He joined Balboa Assembly in San Diego in 1982. He was a delegate at the 1985 Supreme Convention in Washington D.C. and was president of the San Diego chapter for 3 terms. At the state level he was State Treasurer in 1990, State Secretary in 1991 and State Deputy in 1992.
Douglas was blessed to with opportunity to travel to many special places with his family. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching auto racing, golf, football, and his beloved San Diego Padres.
In 2010 Douglas met his dear companion, Gloria Wearmouth. They enjoyed spending time together watching sports and traveling to spend time with extended family. Gloria predeceased Douglas in January 2023.
Douglas is survived by his daughters, Denise Geary (Greg) of Oceanside, CA; Marie Tomlin-Boerner (Tom Boerner) of Kohler, WI; and Holly (Brian) Christenson of Seattle, WA; and his beloved grandchildren Brandon Tomlin, Allison Boerner, Madeline, and Jack Christenson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.
