Elisa V. Matro's Obituary
Matro, Elisa V. 07/20/1927 ~ 07/15/2014 SAN DIEGO — Mrs. Matro passed away unexpectedly in her sleep from a long illness, five days short of her 87th birthday. She was born on July 20, 1927 in Imus, Cavite, the Philippines, into a large Catholic family and was an elementary school teacher for 13 years, until she married Guillermo C. Matro in 1958. Mr. Matro joined the U.S. Navy in the early 1960s and were stationed in the San Diego area. They returned here after short assignments in Honolulu, Hawaii and Bremerton, Washington and settled in Clairemont. Mrs. Matro was a long time employee of Topaz Magnetic Devices and was widowed in 1979. In her later years, she became an accomplished gardener and oil and watercolor painter. She is survived by her older sisters Rosalina Ilano and Corazon Pascua, brother Fernando Velasco, her daughters Patricia and Eileen and son Gil, as well as many relatives in the U.S. and the Philippines. Viewing will be at Clairemont Mortuary on Monday, July 21st, from 4-8 p.m. A mass will be held at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Church in Clairemont on Tuesday, July 22nd, at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral at El Camino Memorial Park Cemetery in Sorrento Valley at 2 p.m. with a reception to be held at 3 p.m. closeby. – See more at: fArrangements under the direction of Clairemont Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
