Erlene Rose Hibdon's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Erlene Rose Hibdon
Erlene Rose Hibdon, aged 93, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 26, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, Erlene was a beacon of light and strength from the very beginning. She spent her early years on the Barona Indian Reservation, embracing life with a spirit of resilience and grace.
As the eldest of twelve children to Leonard Kolb and Lupe Barcello, Erlene set a precedent of love and leadership. Her educational journey took her from Sherman Indian School to Grossmont High School, where she laid the foundations for a life of service and care.
Erlene's career spanned two decades as a dedicated food services worker at UCSD, where she retired in 1988. Her retirement years were filled with the joys of crocheting, cake decorating, and cherishing moments with her beloved family in San Diego, where she resided for most of her life.
Her love story with Billy J. Hibdon began on July 27, 1949, in San Diego, where they were united in marriage. Together, they built a legacy of love that continues through their daughter Barbara and her husband Robert, sons Joseph with Melody, and Ricky with Wendy, along with seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and her brother John Kolb.
A devout Catholic, Erlene's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was a woman of immense strength, kindness, and generosity. Her favorite melodies of country western music would fill the room, as would the warmth of her presence.
Erlene was not just a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend; she was an embodiment of love in its purest form. Her hands, always busy with crocheting or cake decorating, were a testament to her creative spirit and nurturing soul.
We bid farewell to Erlene Rose Hibdon, a remarkable woman whose life was a tapestry of love, family, and faith. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
May she rest in peace and her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
