Francis Daniel Burke, Jr.'s Obituary
Francis (Frank) Daniel Burke, Jr., 64, passed away at his San Diego, CA, childhood home December 8, 2024. He was born on the U.S. Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA, on April 14, 1960, the third of four children. His parents were Francis Daniel Burke and Rose (Vinci) Burke. Two years later his family relocated to San Diego, followed by a relocation to 29 Palms, CA, back to San Diego, then to Oceanside, CA, and ultimately back to San Diego. He was a member of the Cub Scouts and played Pop Warner football as a youth while attending Sequoia Elementary School. He loved to bowl and won many youth awards for his bowling accomplishments. Frank was active in the drama program while at Einstein Junior High School and wrestled and played football at Madison High School, where he graduated in 1978. Upon graduation, he drove across the country to St. Michaels, MD, to be closer to his sister, Patti, who resided in northern VA.
He held various jobs while in MD, and his favorite was working on the water. Frank relocated to northern VA in 1989 and started work that same year at the U.S. Department of State as a Payroll Clerk. He spent 13 years there and then was employed at Home Depot. San Diego called him back in 2009, where he remained until his death. Frank was an avid San Diego Chargers and Padres fan and enjoyed cheering on the Chargers at home games. He was handy around the house and enjoyed repairing/painting whatever needed to be fixed or painted. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia V. McQuay (Dave); his sisters, Patricia C. Berzins (Gunars), Kathleen F. Evans, and Toni A. Ellex; his nephew, Anthony J. Evans; and friends from the East Coast to the West Coast. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Francis D. and Rose V. Burke and nephew, Michael D. Uyeda (Nicole).
Frank’s family would like to thank the health care professionals at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Fresenius Kidney Care Kearny Mesa, and Apreva Hospice for the care provided to Frank over the past several months.
