Gerald Wayne Lively's Obituary
Gerald Wayne Lively passed away on June 12, 2023.
He was born on June 29, 1946 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Russell Harold Lively and Katherine Rebecca McKinley. He was the fourth of five children. He attended Elementary school in Buhl. He graduated from Buhl High School in 1964. He went to the University of Idaho, where he studied Electrical Engineering for three and a half years. Jerry worked for the US Forest Service in McCall Idaho and Green Giant Company in Buhl, Idaho between semesters.
He was drafted into the Navy in 1968 and trained at Great Lakes Illinois; Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA[Electronic Technician Class A ]; San Diego Naval Training Center[Basic Electricity]; and San Diego 32nd St[Radar Class C]
He was assigned to the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear powered Aircraft Carrier. The ship toured the Tonkin Gulf and the Indian Ocean. Jerry left the Navy in 1974 and settled in San Diego where is older brother, C. Roy Lively was employed.
Jerry worked for Logicon a small software company where he was one of the only hardware types. He was involved in computer radar simulation and worked with the Joint Forces for data link simulation and compatability between forces. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering at National University. He remained at Northrup Grumman after it bought Logicon. His work took him to France, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Iceland, Puerto Rico. Jerry retired in 2008.
Jerry and Roy enjoyed ocean fishing. They bought a Blackman boat they named Lively One and fished commercially for awhile. They learned about big game fishing and tournament fishing. They traded up for a 28’ Topaz in 1990. Brother Roy passed away in 2005. Jerry continued run the boat and stay active in the fishing scene which included being President of the Mission Bay Marlin Club.
Jerry is survived by his brother Russell Lively Jr of Idaho and his nieces and nephews, Cindy, Shawna, Julie, Billy, Darci, Ricky, Vicki, Monte, Susan, Clint. He is preceded by his parents Russell H Lively Sr, Katherine R McKinley Lively, sisters Geradine Atkinson and Nelda Estey, and his brother C. Roy Lively, and his nieces Rebeca and Wendi.
Jerry had lots of friends where ever he went in his neighborhood, friends from Cardiac Rehab, friends from Northrup Grumman, friends at Misson Bay Marlin Club and classmates from Idaho who will all miss him.
A Celebration of Life was held for him at the Dockside Room at Marina Village
