Geraldine Joan Bergstrom's Obituary
On Friday, November 6, 2020, Geraldine (Gerry) Bergstrom loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at the age of 91 in San Diego.
Gerry was born on August 6, 1929 in Santa Monica, CA, to Theodore and Alice (St. Germain) Littleton. She was raised in the San Fernando Valley. On December 30, 1950 she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Bergstrom. Gerry and Bob had a daughter, Sharon, and two sons, Martin and David.
Gerry and Bob moved to the Point Loma area of San Diego in 1975, later moving to Fallbrook. She was active in the Southwestern Yacht Club and, later, in the Big Bear community east of Los Angeles. She also volunteered with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and, most recently, was a parishioner at St. Therese of Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel Valley.
The most important thing in Gerry’s life was her family, and she devoted herself to them. She also loved camping – well, in more recent years, “glamping” in her and Bob’s Monaco Coach motorhome. She had a passion for flowers, and loved to create beautiful rose gardens and colorful collections of tall bearded irises. Gerry had an upbeat personality, and inspired her family, friends and caregivers with her quick wit and positive attitude.
Gerry was preceded in death by her father Ted, mother Alice, brother James and sister Leta. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Robert, and her three children – Sharon (Phillip) Poirier of San Diego, Martin Bergstrom of El Cajon and David (Maria) Bergstrom of Calabasas. Given her long and wonderful life, Gerry was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gerry will be missed by her family, relatives and friends – and especially her trademark quip “Who has more fun than people.” Her funeral mass will be at St. Therese of Carmel on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 11:00 am and her burial will be on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 12:30 pm at the Miramar National Cemetery.
