Gwendolyn Hannah Wilson's Obituary
Gwendolyn Hannah Wilson, who was born to her late parents Howard Blackson,Sr. and Mary E. Saunders Blackson on January 17,1949. She was the 9th child of 15 children, 11 girls and 4 boys. Gwen was married to the late David Wilson who preceded her in eternal rest.
Gwen was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, where she attended Harrington Elementary, Tilden Jr. High School, and graduated from John Bartram High School in 1966. She then enlisted in the Navy after graduating High school where she served 3 years and met her late husband, David who she married in September 1972. Gwen went on to receive her Associates Degree from Community College of San Diego. Upon completion she was hired by the Federal Government and served for 25 years.
Gwen was an active volunteer in her retirement. She was invested in her church community. She served with Meals on Wheels, and was heavily involved with Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry.
Gwen was known for loving to eat great cuisine. She took pride in trying new entrees and foods that were authentic to their respective regions. She was a true food connoisseur. When Gwen wasn’t out trying new restaurants she could be found exercising. She really enjoyed line dancing, yoga and walking. Gwen was an avid traveler and just recently traveled to Peru for a 9 day tour in Summer of 2022. She had a host of adventures planned for 2023 but God had other plans.
Gwen was a friend and sister in Christ to many outside her immediate family. She held these women dearly as they shared many life memories. We, the Blackson Family, are extremely grateful for those women who stood by her as a confidant. We know she valued your relationships and we are honored she valued your presence as her extended family away from her place of origin in Philadelphia, PA.
Gwen leaves her memory to cherish to her remaining siblings Ruth, Pauline, Mary, Jr., Eleanor, Shirley (Andre), Doris, Vivian, Wendall, and Florence. A host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, and great- great nieces and nephews. A large quantity of cousins, and extended family and friends. She joins those that preceded her in death her husband David, her parents Howard Sr., and Mary, siblings: Catherine, Delores, Donald Sr.,Howard Jr., and John.
