Jacquelyne Brittany Yawn's Obituary
Jacquelyne Brittany Yawn, 37, passed away February 25, 2026, in San Diego, CA. Jacqui was a native of San Diego who lived in Santee CA for most of her life. She also resided in Ewa Beach HI early in her life. Jacqui was the oldest of four children of Michael Yawn and Tracy Elliot. She was a graduate of West Hills HS in Santee, CA.
Jacqui attended San Diego State University where she received a bachelor’s degree and master’s Degree. Additionally, she received her Paralegal certification from the University of California at San Diego. At the time of her death, she was in her second year of Law School at California Western School of Law. Her dream was to become a lawyer specializing in probate law for the disabled community.
She was a paralegal for the Philo Law Firm, and had worked previously at the Bellator Law Group, San Diego County Courthouse, as well as at the Santee, CA. Barnes and Noble bookstore.
Jacqui is survived by her father Michael Yawn, stepmother Tamara Yawn, mother Tracy Elliot, sister Leilani Yawn, brother Lucas Yawn, sister Mikaela Dixon, and brother-in-law Rico Dixon. She had numerous cousins as well as a huge group of friends. Jacqui and her best friend Dolores Cuervo, who was also her long-time caregiver, enjoyed many adventures throughout the Southern California area.
Two of Jacqui’s highlight events of the year were attending the San Diego COMI-CON each summer and being her father’s “date” at the annual United States Navy Submarine Birthday Ball every spring. In addition to those events she loved attending concerts, (Lindsey Stirling was her favorite), wine festivals/events, local food festivals, and the many sites that the San Diego area has to offer.
Jacqui faced many challenges in her life, not the least of which was becoming a quadriplegic at age 4 months due to a motor vehicle accident. While this may have slowed her down at times, she never let it be a defining obstacle in her life. She went on to become Ms. Wheelchair California 2022, participated in numerous adaptive sports throughout her entire life, and was a strong advocate for the local San Diego disabled community.
She was strong in her Christian faith and while raised in the Catholic faith, she participated in many other Christian denominations in her adulthood. This gave her a broader perspective of her faith. To say that Jacqui was an avid reader would be a gross understatement. She devoured books, enjoyed Science Fiction, Fantasy, and continued to be a Lord of the Rings, ardent Star Wars fanatic, and Harry Potter super fan up until her death.
Anybody that knew Jacqui would comment how she was such a positive person, had a glowing personality, and was an eternal optimist. She was a fearless adventurer, utilized the public transport system in San Diego County extensively, and could be seen zooming around town in her power chair challenging her friends to try and catch up.
Jacqui was a beautiful woman, an awesome daughter, a great sister, and overall outstanding person. She will be sorely missed on Earth, but Heaven will be brighter with her in it.
