James Joseph Williams' Obituary
James Joseph “Jimmy” Williams April 8, 1977 – March 4, 2026
James Joseph Williams, known to family and friends as Jimmy or Jim, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2026. Born on Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona, with his home of record being in (Clairemont) San Diego, California. Jim lived a life marked by an extraordinary love and kindness for those around him.
At 16, Jim began his lifelong career in the automotive world, specializing in BMWs. He eventually would go on to open his own independent BMW repair shop with his wife Marcia. He knew these cars like the back of his hand and could work on them effortlessly, even in his sleep, literally. He would dream of solutions for problematic vehicles all the time. While BMWs were his specialty, he also loved Porsche and cherished Chevrolet, the first car that captured his heart.
Jim was a man of many gifts. He was intelligent, gentle, witty, kind, generous, warm, endlessly loving and a true humanitarian. He had a magnetic personality, a fun-loving spirit, and a beauty that radiated far beyond appearances. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends, offering support of any kind all the time. Whether it was with their car, or guidance in some other matter, or simply a listening ear whenever it was needed. He was a great teacher and advisor - he taught us all so much. Music was one of Jim’s great joys. He had impeccable taste, always discovering and listening to songs and artists that moved him deeply. He had a deep love for the natural world. He enjoyed fishing, observing wildlife, spending time in nature, and caring for his beloved Cane Corso dogs Luna Valentina and Lady Maya, along with his two cats Blue and Sonia, and his bird Bob. His wife, children, working on cars, fishing, birds, animals, listening to music, and the outdoors brought him a lot peace and joy. Like Saint Francis of Assisi animals were very drawn to him, birds often would land on him out of nowhere. To his wife Marcia, he was her best friend, soulmate, and other half. Together, they shared a life of love, laughter, and profound connection.
He is survived by his beloved wife Marcia; his children, Elena, Manuel, Maeva, and Mary; his grandson Amir; his brother Tommy; and his father Stan. He was preceded in death by his sister Lisa and his mother Judy.
Jimmy’s funeral services will be held at the Immaculata Catholic Church on the campus of the University of San Diego on March 27, 2026. Marcia will lead his rosary at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m., with a reception on the east lawn until 1:30 p.m.
Marcia shares from the depths of her heart: "Jimmy has been my best friend since I was 14 years old. It wasn’t until our 30s that we became romantic and married. We shared a life filled with love and deep passion. We had our ups and downs, but what we shared was genuine and divinely inspired. He was my other half, and in his passing, the other half of me has truly died. I love him still, more than anything. I am grateful every day for everything he taught me and our children, who carry pieces of him in them. I wish I had another chance to do it all over again with him and to be able to hear you call me “beautiful” one more time as you always did. As it is written in Song of Solomon 3:4: 'I have found the one whom my soul loves.”
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, laughter, kindness, and a family who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. Playful, joyous, and full of life, he celebrated every moment with a sparkle in his eyes and a beautiful, warm smile that touched everyone he met. Whether in the garage, by the water, in nature, or simply in the company of those he loved most. He made the lives of many so much better. This world is truly suffering a loss of a beautiful soul. He was a big man at 6’4” with an even bigger heart, a true light in this world. We will always miss you Jimmy, you were taken from us way too soon…you are so loved beyond anything that could be written.
