Celebrating the Life of Jerry N. Selness
July 8th, 1941 – March 16th, 2026
We celebrate the beautiful life of Jerry N. Selness, a man who greeted each day with energy and curiosity. Born in Bismarck, North Dakota, Jerry grew up surrounded by wide skies that seemed to invite adventure, and he answered that call for the next eighty-four years.
Jerry found joy on open water, sharing countless sailing trips that blended calm breezes with lively laughter. His love for challenge took him far from the waves as well, right to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, creating lasting memories for everyone who climbed alongside him.
Courage marked every chapter of his story, highlighted by his Distinguished Flying Cross Award. The honor reflected Jerry’s steady focus and remarkable determination, traits he carried into every pursuit.
Jerry passed away in San Diego, California, leaving behind a legacy of bold journeys, bright moments, and unshakable spirit. As friends and family gather, may each shared story celebrate the zest that defined his days and keep his adventurous heart shining on.
Jerry leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Sushila, their son Shaun and his wife Kim, 3 grandchildren, Katherine (Joseph Massman), Andrew, and Rebecca, and his brother Ron (Lynne).
