Joan H Pierce's Obituary
Joan H. Pierce, nee Rinks, passed away December 25, 2022 in San Diego, California. She was born to Annie Laurie and Noble Rinks on January 25, 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Joan moved to San Diego in 1948 where she graduated from the Our Lady of Peace Academy. She met the love of her life, Rollie Pierce when she was 14 years old. They married in June 1953 and were married for 67 years until his passing in July 2020.
She was also a self-taught and incredible cook and could make anything taste great. She made homemade birthday cakes for her kids every year. She also made popcorn balls for Halloween, passing them out instead of storebought candy. She cooked everything on a 1948 Wedgewood stove which is still in her kitchen today. She loved dogs and even when she didn’t have any of her own, she dog sat for Randy’s dog and shared a dog with Sharon. She loved sewing and often sewed her kids’ clothes, especially pajamas, as well as all the drapes in her home.
Joan loved to go camping with her family. She and Rollie spent many winters in their RV in Quartzsite, Arizona.
Joan worked as a food service worker. She retired at 62 after working for 25 years for various city colleges.
She is survived by her two children, Sharon Pierce and Randy Pierce, sister-in-law Loretta Pierce, brother-in-law, Tom Jourdan, half-brother Rob Rinks, numerous nieces and nephews as well as Tanner, the family dog.
Services are Friday, January 6th at 1:00 at the mortuary. Attendees are asked to wear a bit of orange in her honor. A luncheon will be served immediately after the service in the hall at the mortuary.
