John Richard Asmus III's Obituary
John Richard Asmus III was born on May 1st, 1976, in San Diego, Ca. Growing up, he attended Solana Vista Elementary School, Skyline Elementary, and Earl Warren Middle School. During the summer before his freshman year, his family moved to Los Gatos, Ca. There, he attended Los Gatos High School and graduated in 1994. After high school John attended UCLA where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
After college, John returned to his hometown of San Diego. For the last 15 years John worked as a Senior Software Support Engineer with Component Control in downtown San Diego.
John met his future wife in 2012, but it wasn’t until 2014 that they made it official. They welcomed their daughter, Brea Rose Asmus in March of 2016.
John Asmus was an incredible man, loving husband, Dad, son, and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Brogade, daughter Brea, parents John and Linda Asmus, sister Lisa (Frank) Wise, nieces Lila, Nora, and Audrey Wise, and nephew Andrew Wise among many other nieces and nephews from his wife’s side.
There are so many more ways he will be remembered; girl dad, dog dad to Brownie B, runner, yoga enthusiast, amazing son-in-law, softball coach, being able to fall asleep on the spot, knowing so much about anything and everything, the fun Girl Scout dad, playing in the Scripps Ranch Old Pros Soccer league, friend, and coworker. John was an amazing cook and baker. Whether it was his famous “Dad’s Way” chicken dish, homemade cinnamon rolls, cinnamon bread, or cookies.
I’m sure we all have memories of him whether it was playing against him (The Orthorus) in his So Cal Ballers Fantasy Football league, or his yearly camping trips with his high school friends at The Compound, our annual family cabin trips where you could find John barefooted, in shorts, in the freezing cold being excited to golf!
John did the amazing thing of registering to be an organ donor. He was able to donate his liver and kidneys to three people. As he is no longer here on earth, his gift has allowed other people a new chance of life.
We are holding his Celebration of Life at the Clairemont Mortuary on Saturday, January 31st, 2026, from 11am to 2pm. Come ready with your best memories and funniest stories to share. Let’s toast this amazing man who touched so many lives.
