John Walter Borns' Obituary
John “Jack” Walter Borns, 81, passed away on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, in San Diego, California. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Walter, and Marjorie Scholl Borns; wife, Mary Borns; and siblings, Douglas Borns, Claire Ellsworth, Joseph Borns, Timothy Borns, Theresa Barnes, and Brenda Jenkins. Left to cherish Jack’s memory are his wife, Remedios Borns; daughters, Leslie Borns, Kelly Borns, and Virginia Francesca Lugtu; sons, Mark Oliver Lugtu, and Mark Allen Lugtu; grandchildren, Jarod, Ashly, Destiny, Ricky, Albert, Victoria, Nikki, and Luna; along with a host of other family and friends.
Jack was born the oldest of 10 children in Gary, Indiana in February of 1942. He attended Perdue University until he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country until retirement. Following his service in the Navy, Jack had a second career as the Plant Manager for Crest Industrial Chemicals until he retired for good.
In his spare time, Jack enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, camping, canoeing, traveling to air shows, cooking barbecues, or smoking meat. He also enjoyed reading or watching documentaries about the military, tinkering with stuff in need of fixing, and most of all spending time with his family. Jack was a loving man who was always there to listen, guide, or give a hug. He made friends everywhere he went, and there were many bonus kids he considered his own. Nancy Brewer and Diana Hodges McDevitt he called his daughters; and Adrian Alaniz, Brycen Guzman, and Mark Chen he called his grandsons.
Funeral services for Jack will be held in both California and Texas. A Visitation will be held in San Diego on Friday, September 22nd, at Clairemont Mortuary (4266 Mt. Abernathey Ave San Diego CA 92117) from 4-9pm. Funeral Services in Pearland will be held at Clayton Funeral Home (5530 W. Broadway St, Pearland, Texas 77581) on Thursday, September 28th, 2023. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m., with the Service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Jack will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on the same day.
