I grew up in Sunman and was one of Aurella's students. I only knew Jack from his returns to Sunman for the High School reunions. I can tell by reading these comments what great children Aurella raised. When her children created Aurella's Scholarship Fund, I thought how proud she would have been. I worked with Jack right after I graduated from college in the mid-80s. He was so patient whenever he helped me. I loved hearing stories of his time in the military. He'd start laughing at his own story as he was telling it — a lot like my own dad.I had the pleasure of working with his daughter, Jane, so I was able to keep tabs on Jack through the years. Jane and her father shared more than one or two similarities! My condolences to the entire family on your loss. I hope your memories of his kind and generous heart will ease your pain.
As Jack's youngest sibling and only sister, I was always very proud of him as well as my other three brothers. They all did very well academically in school and were good athletes as well. They were an inspiration to me. I was very proud of Jack when he received the appointment to Anapolis.Jack gave me some very practical advise when I was growing up. He said when you get a job, save a portion of each pay check for your retirement. Thanks to Jack I did that and now I'm enjoying my retirement. David and I send our heart-felt condolences to Gladys, their children, and their grandchildren. I'm extremely grateful that I had a big brother like Jack Hofmockel.Love to all,Carolyn

I read this somewhere and wanted to share. "When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure." Even though our times together were few, and our only communication was via our family website and email, Uncle Jack was a treasure to me long before he was a memory. I feel so fortunate to have been at the family reunion in September. Hearing all the old stories was amazing. I am hoping that your wonderful memories will help to ease your sorrow. We are so blessed to have had Dad in our lives these 85 years. He was a uniquely soulful person who gave pure kindness, joyous laughter, and thoughtful insight to everyone in his life. Even through our sadness and these tears, his smile lights the way, and we celebrate a life well lived. Godspeed.
