Jose Lewis Valverde's Obituary
Jose L. Valverde, Age 97, of San Diego, CA passed away on January 12, 2017. He was born in Calexico, CA. on December 13, 1919. Lived a good Life in San Diego always happy, generous and very loving.
Joe graduated from San Diego High School and received Aviation Sheet Metal education from San Diego Vocational School.
He was married to Iris Blanche Estavillo on September 26, 1942, widowed on November 15, 1994. He remarried Alicia Munoz in July 1996 and was widowed in 2009.
He served 2 years at Civilian Conservation Corps as an Assistant Leader in Road Construction Gang in Pine Valley California . He joined the Navy as a Seaman from September 8, 1939 to October 17, 1941. After he got out of the Navy he says was drafted by President Roosevelt into the Army serving his country from July 7, 1944 to January 5, 1946. While in the Army he served with Company C 501 st Parachute Infantry Regiment making 9 parachute jumps and served with 101st Airborne Division in the European Theater of Operations as an expert Rifleman.
Decorations and Citations: American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Joe was well respected, a hard worker having a successful career at Ryan Aeronautical Co. and General Dynamics retiring after 42 years as a Supervisor Engineer, worked Aviation sheet metal, a Template maker for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corp.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinist, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and consistently donating to various organizations to help the less fortunate. He passion was music and dancing, physical activity to stay in shape and gardening.
He is survived by his children, Mike Valverde, Sharon Summers and Donald Fernandez. Grandchildren Skot Valverde. Tim Valverde, Jonathan Valverde and Elizabeth Valverde. Great Grandchildren Jazmine Valverde, Arianna Valverde, Giaa Valverde and Camilla Valverde. Great Great Grandchildren Jayla Rose Nguyen and his sister Mary Dora Mandra.
Funeral arrangements will be held at Clairemont Mortuary on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Following the service there will be a Reception there and then will proceed to Holy Cross Cemetery for Interment with Military Honors. Rest In Peace Jose L.
