Joseph Ingram Keenan's Obituary
Keenan, Joseph I. Captain, USN Supply Corp. (Retired) SAN DIEGO — Joe Keenan died on January 7, 2015. Born in Baltimore, MD to Bernard F. and Katharine P. Keenan in 1926. Joe grew up in Bay Village, Ohio and graduated from Bay High School. He entered the US Navy in 1944.
He married the former Patricia Buckingham of Rocky River, Ohio.
In the Navy he served aboard several ships, including being a plank owner for the USS Carpenter. Shore stations included: Norfolk, VA; Pentagon Washington, D.C.; Japan; Boston, Mass, and Naval Attaché to the Brazilian Government in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Among the many service honors received included the Navy Commendation Medal, World War II Victory, United Nations Service, and National Defense Service (1 star).
He earned a BA from Rice University, and obtained an MS from the USAF Institute of Technology.
In retirement he settled in San Diego in 1971 with Pat. Joe held various management positions for local retail furniture companies. Obtained his paralegal certificate and went to work for the Hoyt Law Firm retiring in 2012.
Joe was active in the Catholic Church as a lay reader with a strong interest in the history of the Holy Land. He was a long time Meals on Wheels volunteer.
He was predeceased by Pat, his wife of almost 63 years. He is survived by his son Christopher and wife Paula Keenan; son Robert Keenan and grandsons Jonathan and Brandon Keenan of San Diego, and his sister Janet Whittemore of Westlake, Ohio.
A private funeral mass took take place at Our Mother of Confidence Roman Catholic Church followed by a private interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with military honors.
