Laila B Galingan's Obituary
Laila B. Galingan, 83, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. She was born on January 19, 1938 in Burgos Pangasinan, Philippines to Cosme and Severa Bustamante.
Laila studied to be a Registered Nurse and received her BSRN degree from the University of Pangasinan in the Philippines. In 1959 she was selected as one of the first group of foreign nurses to come to the United States and settled in New York. There she met her husband, Eddie, and were married for 56 years.
Her nursing career spanned almost 40 years retiring in 1999 from Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, CA with 28 years of service.
Laila is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie (2017) and is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Dumas and grandson Anthony Dumas of San Diego, CA; sisters Consuelo Ortiz and Edy Bonado of the Philippines; Niece Vicky Balcorta (Junior; Marjorie, AJ and Devin) of Palmdale, CA; many nieces/nephews, great-nieces/great-nephews and their children: The Braga, Lazaro and Ortiz Families in the Philippines; The Duco, McCabe, Ortiz and Newkirk Families of San Diego/Brawley, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wed., September 29th at Clairemont Mortuary at 4:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Mass will be held on Thu., September 30th at Holy Family Catholic Church on Coolidge St. at 11:00 a.m. Interment following at 1:30 p.m., Miramar National Cemetery, where Laila will be reunited with her beloved husband, Eddie.
