He went to high school at San Diego High where he played football all throughout high school. He worked a short amount of time at the San Diego Zoo and Convair before going into the Coast Guard. Later when he married Margaret they started their family in La Mesa, California, where he lived the rest of his life.
He learned to be a journeyman plumber, working on all sorts of residential and commercial buildings. He could build and repair anything mechanical. He loved doing all sorts of home projects with his three sons around the house.
He retired in 1993 after working for 35 years. Then he cared for his wife Margaret during her difficult illness.
He enjoyed coins, golfing, fishing, making wine, caring for a vegetable garden, jewelry making and looking for deals at the swap meet among other endeavors. Visits to Canada were an important part of his family life. He liked his coffee black and his toast cold and hard. He loved to eat hot peppers. Chocolate was his favorite. Most of all, he provided for and cared deeply for the wellbeing of his wife Margaret, his sons, and their families.
Larry had many sayings that he lived by: “I’m the Best dad you’ll ever have.” “I’m the last of the nice guys.” “No Mickey Mouse jobs.” “Every job square and on the level.” “Tough as nails.” “In this fine establishment…” and many more.
Larry was a humble man but lived a rich life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
