Lorraine Marie Cale's Obituary
Lorraine Marie Cale age 96 was born on February 2, 1928, in Newark, NJ and passed away March 16, 2024, in San Diego, CA. She was the youngest of 3 children of Charles and Hattie DeGirarde. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband John Cale.
After high school she attended Drake Secretarial School where she earned a degree in Stenography. After secretarial school she got her first job at National Peanut Packing Co. That job didn’t last long. After that she worked at Essex Bank and loved it and worked there until November of 1949 when she was pregnant with her first child. She spent the next 12 years as a stay-at-home mom and then in 1961 went to work at Clairemont Bowl where she was in charge of the Junior bowling program. She worked there until the bowling alley closed in 2005.
Lorraine retired in 2005 after working at Clairemont Bowl for 44 years. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family. After the passing of her husband in 1992 she enjoyed traveling with her friend Elenor Gaddy. Lorraine and Elenor had many adventures including driving up the east coast and several trips to Las Vegas. She was also a devout Catholic and volunteered many hours at her Church.
She was married to John H Cale on April 3, 1948, in Newark, NJ. Being a military wife, she traveled the country, living in Newark, NJ, Norfolk, VA, Great Lakes, IL and finally San Diego, CA.
Surviving family members include daughter Gail (Walter), sons Jack (Debbie) and Jerry (Margo). She is also survived by 6 Grandchildren, Jessica, Brendon (Jessica), Jeff, Christopher, Josh and Hannah (Arthur) and 8 Great Grandchildren: Emma, Abby, Zoe, Kaia, Amaya, Mason, Sebastian and Artie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was loving, kind, generous and the Best Darn Grandma ever and will be missed greatly by all whose lives she touched.

Services will be held March 28, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
