Lucia Sepe's Obituary
With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Lucia SEPE. Lucia passed away peacefully in Port Orchard, WA on December 19, 2022 at the age of 93. Lucia was born in Barile, Italy. She met Donato who lived in the same village, got married, then moved to Southern France where her three children were born. In 1965, they again moved to Toronto Canada. Looking for a better way of life, their last move was to San Diego, CA years later. At the age of 91, she moved to Port Orchard, WA to be closer to her daughter. It is sad to say that her last move was now back in San Diego next to her husband and son.
She learned to sew at a very young age, and from then on, designed and made her own clothes, had a sewing business, and provided for her family. She was a master of everything: crochet, knitting, embroidery, gardening [she had the greenest thumb ever!], flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. Her front yard in San Diego was the talk of the neighborhood! And she loved to cook and entertain. All her friends wanted to be invited to her home – which they called “Lucia’s Ristorante” - How about some espresso with Italian cookies? She spoke four languages fluently and she made sure everyone knew that. Lucia’s only sport was playing “Petanque” and competing in tournaments in which she received quite a few trophies for 1st and 2nd place. Lucia and Donato also travelled for pleasure visiting family all over the US, Italy, France and as far away as Argentina. Another favorite pastime we did as a family was camping – whether near a river and cooking fresh fish or by the ocean for months at the time. She was a very active member of the Italian, French and German Club and made so many friends. But her one love was dancing! She knew all the locations in San Diego County and made sure she was in the middle of it all.
She is survived by her sister Antonietta; her daughter-in-law Melanie; grandsons Christopher Sepe and Robin Sepe; her daughter Carmelina Johnson-Packer and husband Neil and grandchildren Christine Stewart, Dr. John Johnson DDS and Trelayna Sizer; her son Dr. Jean-Pierre Sepe DDS and wife Leigh; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father Giovanni; her mom Giovanna; her sister Cherubina; her brother Ferdinando; her husband Donato Sepe and her son Dominique Sepe, father to Christopher and Robin.
A celebration of Lucia’s life will be held at noon (12 pm) on Monday January 23, 2023 at the Salli Lynn Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary located on 4300 Imperial Ave., San Diego 92113.
The family can’t begin to express how much she will be missed. But we also know she led a wonderful life and we celebrate her and will continue her legacy in all that we do.
