Mai Ly Renee McAllister-Rast's Obituary
Mai Ly Renee McAllister-Rast was born in Vietnam on December 20, 1972, passed away at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA on May 2, 2024, she was 51 years old.
She is preceded in death by her father Michael McAllister (11.19.1938 – 03.11.2020) and nephew Austin Lee (07.17.1994 – 11.01.1994).
She is survived and loved by her husband Allan Rast, son Kai Rast, her mother Carol McAllister, sister, Kim Ly Nadon, Tawn Ly McAllister and her nieces, Nichole Parsons, Elizabeth Lee, Miya Parker and nephew, Genesis McThay, and her beloved dog Miso.
Mai Ly grew up in Tigard, Oregon and then moved to Japan, where she attended Zama American High School and went onto the University of Oregon where she graduated in 1995.
Mai Ly and Allan were married on September 23, 2005, and stayed happily married for 18 years. He took incredible care of her through her struggle with cancer.
Mai Ly had many hobbies, and always enjoyed being around people. She loved going to Disneyland and being a kid and having her time with her son and family. She was part of helping her son’s school booster club and was Kai’s biggest cheerleader, especially proud of her role on his high school volleyball team, always encouraging him with enthusiasm and pride.
Mai Ly also had a fighting spirit that never wavered in the face of her diagnosis with cancer.
Mai Ly will forever be remembered for her bright smile, kind, and loving person whose sparkling personality positively affected everyone who she came into contact with. She cared deeply about her family and friends and cherished every moment and every memory with them. She will be deeply missed.
