Margaret Evangeline Garberick's Obituary
Margaret Evangeline Garberick, a 50-year resident of Morris, MN was born on November 15, 1932, to Henry and Mary (Van Kempen) Schmidt in Hodges Township, Steven’s County, Minnesota. She attended grade school at District #5 County School, where she was the only one in her class. She was the youngest of six brothers and four sisters.
Her family moved to Morris where she graduated in 1950. She was Homecoming Queen that year. She was married to Douglas Garberick on May 29, 1951, at the Assumption Catholic Church. She helped Doug in his portrait studio, along with staying at home raising her six children. She was always a wonderful wife and mother.
Marg was a fine golfer and, during years in her young life, won many Ladies Short Stop Tournaments in Western Minnesota. Wow! They sold their studio in 1982 and retired to San Diego where they met many dear friends and were blessed with a fine life. They were married for 73 years.
Margaret died peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, in El Cajon, CA. She was almost 92 years old. She is survived by her husband, Doug, and her children: Michael and Patrick of El Cajon, CA; Tom and Linda (Krattenmaker) of Sartell, MN; Ann (Garberick) and Rafael Montiel of Lakeside, CA; James of Buffalo, MN; and Marie (Garberick) Thompson of Spring Valley, CA. Plus 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
